I won’t copy Charles Duhigg’s article. It’s the best piece of content on the Internet about changing your habits.

How Habits Work — Charles Duhigg

Because ‘breaking’ habits doesn’t work. You either quit cold turkey and avoid the trigger for this habit for the rest of your life (say ‘goodbye’ to all social media forever) OR you rebuild the existing habit.

Habits cannot be broken. They are stored in your brain. You don’t break your brain!

When it comes to mindless scrolling, I have one tip for you: change the way you use social media. Always do it with purpose.

I almost never visit the main feed on Quora or Facebook. I have two default starting points on Quora: my profile and ‘Questions for you.’ When I visit Quora my purpose is to find new questions or to write new answers.

I use Facebook mainly to interact in interest groups for authors and entrepreneurs. My starting point for FB are links to specific groups.

I obsessively avoid feeds, where others choose what I should see and intentionally visit (and utilize) only the specific parts of social media that I choose.
