How Long Will It Take to Form the Habit of Self-discipline?
First of all, self-discipline is more of a character trait than a habit. Let’s have a look at definitions:
Habit
a settled or regular tendency or practice, especially one that is hard to give up
Self-discipline
the ability to control one’s feelings and overcome one’s weaknesses.
The definitions overlap a bit, tendency sounds like something you tend to always do, thus a character trait.
The Question of Time
The time of developing habits is a subject of a hot debate. The only widely-known research on this topic, done well over a decade ago, says it takes 66 days on average.
There are some, like BJ Fogg, the author of Tiny Habits, who claim it may take a single repetition to form a habit.
But that research was based on mundane habits, not developing a character trait; dr. Fogg was talking about very small habits.
From my pretty vast experience, I know developing a habit ranges from a single repetition to forever. It all depends on a person, on a habit and methods you employ.
That’s the only honest answer.
